Palace to release P25M for typhoon-hit residents in Batanes

Malacañang will release P25 million to help residents affected by typhoon Julian in Batanes.

President Marcos made the announcement on Friday, Oct. 4, during his visit in Basco, Batanes which was battered again by typhoon Julian after it reentered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The office of House Speaker Martin Romualdez will also give P15 million for the typhoon-hit residents.

"Dinagdagan ng Speaker of the House ng 15 million ang release para sa tulong. Ang Office of the President naman ay magre-release kami ng 25 million para sa inyo (The Speaker of the House added P15 million for assistance. And the Office of the President will release P25 million for you)," Marcos told Basco residents.

The President further said that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be releasing P10,000 cash assistance to every household affected by the typhoon.

The DSWD has also provided P2.78 million worth of assistance to affected families while the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) gave 10 kilos of rice to each of the 4,000 beneficiaries.

Marcos also assured them that their local government will help them in rebuilding damaged houses.

Fourteen thousand food packs will also be distributed to families.

The Chief Executive further told residents to continue reaching out to the government if they need help.

"Pero hangga’t may kailangan sabihan n'yo lang kami at nandito rin si Governor nagrere --- nagre-report sa akin pinapadalan kami ng video nakita namin kung gaano kalakas (But as long as you need something, tell us, the governor will continue reporting to me, sending us video showing how strong the typhoon is)," Marcos said.

Around 7,088 families or 21,348 individuals were affected by Typhoon Julian in Batanes, with 23 families or 87 individuals taking shelter at evacuation centers. The typhoon left around 196 totally damaged houses and 1,388 partially damaged.

Eight were reportedly injured in Basco, while no major flooding incident or damage to infrastructure was reported. All national roads are still passable.
