With the hashtag #TimeToEndBreastCancer, Estée Lauder Philippines and SM Cares heralded the start of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month at SM Aura. It was an especially fitting partnership as SM Supermalls president Steven Tan spoke about how his own mother is a breast survivor, and he still vividly recalls the worry and stress that accompanied that diagnosis.

The St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation Inc. was also a partner in the event, providing the makeshift booths that allowed for testing to happen on the day. One of its oncologists gave a detailed talk about the affliction.

Breast cancer, for some inexplicable reason, has its highest incidence in the ASEAN region here in the Philippines. While curable when detected early, the cancer also causes a high number of fatalities. Awareness is really key. It’s good to see corporations, such as Estée Lauder and SM Supermalls, make their contributions to the cause felt.
