Brosas was known for competing in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany and was part of the swimming team which snared a silver medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay event of the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of National Coach and legend Carlos Singson Brosas OLY,” PAI wrote on its social media post.

“Coach Pinky spent his life generously sharing from his wealth of experience and leaves a vacuum few can fill,” it added. “While we mourn his death we give thanks for the legacy Coach Pinky leaves behind in Philippine sports.”

He served as the head coach of the national team in three editions of the Summer Games including 2008 Beijing, 2012 London and 1988 Seoul where Philippine swimming icons Eric Buhain and Akiko Thomson competed.

Brosas also mentored the national team in multiple local and international swim joust which includes the 2010 Olympic Youth Games in Singapore.
