5 dead due to typhoon ‘Julian’ - NDRRMC

Five people died due to the effects of typhoon “Julian”, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday, Oct. 4.

Four fatalities were recorded in Ilocos (Region 1) while one was in Cagayan Valley (Region 2).

Two of the five deaths have already been validated while the remaining are still undergoing verification if they are indeed related to the typhoon. 

In Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, a 62-year-old man drowned while a 25-year-old man got electrocuted in Santa Ana, Cagayan.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man was missing after allegedly being swept away by strong current along the Tineg River in San Juan, Abra. Eight other people were injured due to the typhoon, many of them were hit by fallen debris.

More than 240,000 people were affected in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Regions 1 and 2.

However, only around 500 persons were still in evacuation centers as flood in many areas have already subsided.

The initial damage to agriculture was estimated to have reached P309 million while infrastructure loss was pegged at P738 million.

The national government has already distributed P32 million worth of assistance to the typhoon victims.
