'Lovely Runner,' 'Queen of Tears' voted best Korean dramas of 2024

“Lovely Runner” and “Queen of Tears” have been voted as the best Korean dramas of 2024. 

Korean media outlet Joy News 24 marked its 20th anniversary by conducting a survey from Sept. 30 to Oct. 8 about dramas, variety shows, movies, actors and singers that shined in 2024. 

The survey was conducted among 200 people in the Korean entertainment industry, including entertainment and broadcasting company employees, movie and broadcasting content producers, and entertainment reporters. 

The results showed “Lovely Runner” and “Queen of Tears” tied for first place as the best dramas of the year in South Korea with 60 votes each out of the 200 respondents.

“Lovely Runner” starred Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon while “Queen of Tears” starred Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won.

Based on CJENM’s analysis, “Lovely Runner” recorded over 50 percent of the 20-30 age group viewership rate across all platforms, Joy News 24 reported. 

“'Queen of Tears” recorded a rating of 24.9 percent for its final episode, the highest rating for a tvN drama in history. 

Voted the third best drama of the year with 19 votes is Jang Na-ra’s “Good Partner.” 

The SBS drama “Connection,” starring Ji Sung, and Netflix’s “The Whirlwind,” starring Kim Hee-ae and Sol Kyung-gu, tied for fourth place in the survey with eight votes each. 

Dramas that also entered the survey were “Black Out” and “Korea-Khitan War” with seven votes each. 

“Pachinko 2,” “The Frog,” “The Judge from Hell,” “A Killer Paradox,” “No Gain No Love,” “The 8 Show,” “No Way Out: The Roulette,” “Pyramid Game,” “Bitter Sweet Hell” and “Love Next Door” also placed in the survey.
