'Leon' nabbed for extortion in Makati

As Typhoon Leon slowly exits the Philippines, another "Leon" will enter prison after being arrested by the Makati City Police on Tuesday, October 29, for robbery and extortion charges.

Based on the police report, the 34-year-old Malaysian national allegedly extorted P120,000 from a Chinese national in exchange for the alleged termination of a kidnapping complaint filed against him.

The suspect also threatened to publicize a copy of the victim's passport.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police officers swiftly organized an entrapment operation that led to Leon's arrest inside a luxury residential building in Poblacion, Makati.

The officers recovered the entrapment money from Leon, who is now under police custody.

Southern Police District (SPD) director PBGen. Bernard Yang commended the police for the suspect's immediate arrest.

"This successful operation is a testament to the dedication and efficiency of our police force in combating crime. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and expatriates in our jurisdiction. The swift action taken in this case highlights our ongoing efforts to uphold justice and maintain public trust," Yang said.
