SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – This province is under red alert for typhoon “Leon” and All Saints’ Day.
Alvin Cruz, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said they have prepared all the necessary logistical assets and resources needed for mobilization upon the directive of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David.
The PDRRMO has been conducting incident monitoring in 20 component local government units since signal No. 1 was has been hoisted in the province on Tuesday.
Cruz said that four teams composed of seven personnel each are on standby to respond to any emergencies and monitor the situations in cemeteries.
David said that she instructed the PDRRMO to prepare rescue equipment ahead of time for immediate response as the safety of the residents remains her utmost priority.
“We are also anticipating an influx of visitors in our cemeteries that is why we also deployed our PDRRMO personnel to work together with our law enforcement agencies, volunteers, and groups in the maintenance of peace, safety, and security,” David added.
She advised people visiting their departed loved ones to abide by safety and traffic standards to ensure public order.
“We remind our province mates to be alert, vigilant, and safe. We also advise those living in the low-lying areas that are prone to flash floods and landslides to evacuate ahead of time to prevent casualties.”
‘Oplan: Biyaheng Ayos’
Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera and the Land Transportation Office have implemented "Oplan: Byaheng Ayos: Undas 2024” to ensure a safe and orderly influx of people in transportation terminals in Baguio City.
The K-9 unit of the PDEA Land Transport Interdiction Unit inspected bags of passengers and the LTO checked the roadworthiness of passenger vehicles.
The PDEA also conducted drug tests on drivers.
Inspections will continue over the weekend and PDEA and LTO personnel have been deployed in transportation terminals to provide assistance to the people. (Zaldy Comanda)
