United Kingdom Minister for the Indo-Pacific Catherine West went around the Philippines during her visit to attend a peace and security conference.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) by British Ambassador to Manila Laure Beaufils, the envoy shared about West’s visit and the UK programs that help the various issues in economy, climate change, and maritime security that the Philippines face.
“Thank you for joining us for the next 3 days to take forward our shared (UK and Philippine flag emojis) interests in climate & biodiversity, maritime security, & economic growth & to partake in the Conference on Women Peace and Security,” her post read.
Aside from attending the conference, West also took the opportunity to go around Manila, which included a visit to the La Mesa Ecopark and a meeting with “environmental defenders.”
Her visit to the park, which supports the conservation of the La Mesa Watershed, shows the United Kingdom’s commitment to address environmental issues.
“(UK) programmes are helping protect and restore biodiversity in (the Philippines),” Beaufils said on X.
“(UK) is committed to addressing the climate and nature crisis & protecting the rights of environmental defenders,” the envoy added.
West also had the chance to drop by and see the Royal Navy ship HMS Spey, which is docked in Manila.
The ambassador said the ship “is contributing to further strengthening the defence cooperation between (UK) & (the Philippines).”
