P50-M shabu recovered in drug stings


CEBU CITY – Suspected shabu amounting to P50 million was seized in buy-bust operations in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue on Tuesday night, Oct. 29.

In Cebu City, a 45-year-old suspected drug pusher was arrested with 5.2 kilos of shabu worth P35.5 million.

Jonifer Pilapil Noval, a vendor and resident of Barangay Yati, Liloan, Cebu, was arrested by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Drug Enforcement Group-Special Operations Unit, and Waterfront Police Station in Barangay Tejero.

Police said the suspect was monitored for a month before he was finally arrested. 

Noval was capable of selling 10 kilos of shabu a week and his customers are from Mandaue and Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City.

The suspect said he is just a newbie in the illegal drugs trade. Noval said someone would just call him and they would meet in a mall in Consolacion, Cebu.

Noval said he was tasked to deliver illegal drugs and for every successful delivery, he would be paid P10,000.

In Lapu-Lapu City, at least two kilos of shabu worth P13.9 million was seized from a 31-year-old drug pusher described by the police as a high-value individual.

The suspect, a certain Joel and a resident of Barangay Calamba, Cebu City, was cornered by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) in Barangay Pusok.

Police Lt. Col. Christian Torres, information officer of LLCPO, said the suspect obtained his supply of illegal drugs through a contact currently detained at the Cebu City Jail.
