The office of ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo has donated 5,000 capsules of Doxycycline--a medicine used for cases of leptospirosis--to the Angat Buhay Movement of former vice president Leni Robredo.

The antibiotics--50 boxes in all--were turned over to Angat Buhay on Wednesday, Oct. 30. These are meant to be distributed to victims of typhoon "Kristine" in the Bicol region.

In a statement, Tulfo, the House deputy majority leader for communications, said that most of the calls received by his office was about the problem of leptospirosis, particularly in Bicol where residents had to contend with heavy floods.

"Kaya agad po kaming gumawa ng paraan para makakalap ng mga gamot para dito (That's why we acted immediately to gather medicine for this),” said Tulfo, a former broadcast journalist.

“Lumubog kasi ang maraming bahagi ng Camarines Sur lalo na ang Naga City noong bagyong Kristine at ang nakakatakot ang mga tao nababad sa baha. Proteksyon o panangga ng mga tao laban sa leptospirosis ang mga gamot po na ito," explained the senatorial aspirant.

(Typhoon Kristine caused massive floods in Camarines Sur, especially in Naga City, and what's concerning is that the people waded through the floodwater. This medicine will help protect people from leptospirosis.)

Robredo, who served as vice president from 2016 to 2022, is a native of Naga.

For his part, Tulfo's fellow nominee ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Edvic Yap said, “Hindi po kami mananawa na tumulong hanggat may nangangailangan ng ayuda…tutulong po ang ACT-CIS."

(As long as there are people in need of aid, ACT-CIS will be there to help.)

It was only last Oct. 24 when ACT-CIS Party-list distributed 2,000 sacks of rice and P1 million in total cash aid for the benefit the typhoon victims.
