Why the gun-wielding man in viral NLEX toll plaza video arrested the van driver

Remember the viral video of a gun-wielding man in what appears to be another road rage incident near a toll booth of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)?

Yes, he is a policeman and he was immediately sacked from his post after the incident.

And here’s the background story based on a police report:

On Sept. 30, the Toyota Avanza being driven by the policeman was travelling along Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Sauyo, Quezon City when it was accidentally hit by the closed van while overtaking the cop’s car.

But instead of stopping, the van driver sped off his vehicle which prompted the policeman to chase him. The cop later cornered the closed van at the toll plaza of the NLEX on Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City.

The policeman then ordered the van driver to alight from the vehicle and subsequently placed him under arrest.

According to the report from the Valenzuela City police, the policeman took the van driver to the nearest police station, Substation 8.

“Both parties subsequently turned over to the office of Vehicular Traffic Investigation Enforcement Unit. However, both parties involved decided to settle their dispute amicably,” the report read.

A separate investigation report from the Philippine National Police-Civil Security Group (PNP-CSG) disclosed that both the cop and the van driver denied the comments on the viral video post that the policeman fired his gun during the chase.

The policeman was already relieved from his post and was ordered to turn over his issued service firearm.

“The unit will pursue an administrative investigation in coordination with Valenzuela City Police Station and the party involved to determine any violations that the (policeman) may have committed relative to the incident,” the CSG report read.
