The new Lacoste Original Eau de Parfum is a scent for the modern man

It’s a nod to the 1984 Lacoste Original

With the 1984 Lacoste Original celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, master perfumers Anne Flipo and Perfumer Tanguy Guesnet were inspired to create a modern and addictive scent while highlighting the brand’s emblematic codes and distinctive signature. This resulted in a modern and dynamic woody ambery fougère eau de parfum—the new Lacoste Original Eau de Parfum.

To bring out Lacoste’s personality—a blend of timeless freshness and creative frenzy, the perfumers worked on citrusy and spicy scents using bergamot, cardamom, and pink peppercorn as the top notes to convey motion. This explosive mixture gives way to an aromatic fougère heart of clary sage and lavender, the common element between the 2024 and 1984 editions. The heart trails off to an addictive base of tonka bean and sandalwood, while amber and patchouli reinforce the masculine side of the fragrance.

The launch of this perfume also marked the first collaboration between Lacoste and global fragrance company Interparfums, embodying both authenticity and innovation.

For him and soon for her

In a conversation with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, Louis Dassonville, regional director of Interparfums, it is said that this new perfume is the twisted version of the 1984 edition.

“We revamped the design, but we kept the lavender notes then we added the sandalwood and citrus,” he says. “Sandalwood because it reminds us of the wooden rocket of Rene Lacoste the founder of the brand and citrus because it’s a very elegant and fresh note.”

He then teases that the company will drop the female version of the perfume by January next year. “Women can also wear the new Lacoste Original EDP, but I can share that we will release the female version by next year,” he says. “We are so excited about it because Lacoste originally was selling more for the men, and now we really want to talk to the women. We already have some options for women, but we will come with a big one next year.”

Meanwhile, Renaud Boisson, CEO of Interparfums APAC Region, shared that the Philippines is a growing market for perfume. “Historically, perfume is a small category in Asia Pacific, less in the Philippines actually but it’s growing so we are happy,” he says. “Perfume has a bright future in Asia Pacific and in the Philippines.”

An expression of movement in all its forms, Lacoste Original is an olfactory celebration of everything the brand embodies. This new scent invites wearers to experience the essence of Lacoste—not just through its fragrance, but through the story it tells—one of heritage, sophistication, and innovation.
