PCG suspends sea travel  in Quezon due to ‘Leon’


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Philippine Coast Guard suspended sea travel in northern Quezon on Tuesday, Oct. 29, as storm signal No. 1 was hoisted with the approach of tropical cyclone “Leon.”

The PCG Station-northern Quezon issued notice to mariners CGSNQ 1024-028 affecting the towns of General Nakar, Infanta, and Real, including the Polillo Group of Islands.

The notice is in line with HPCG Memorandum Circular 02-23 entitled “Revised Guidelines on the Movement of Vessel During Heavy Weather” dated March 23, 2023.

Voyages may be allowed in the main supply routes and special areas under the conditions set forth by NHQ-PCG MC 02-23 as verified by PCG Station-northern Quezon.

All vessels were reminded to take precautionary measures and be extra vigilant in monitoring the movement of Leon if deemed affected by the weather disturbance. 

Voyages will resume until further notice and upon improvement of weather and sea conditions.

Vessels that intend to take shelter shall be permitted as long as it is manifested through a written request and no passenger or are on board.

Bodies retrieved

CUENCA, Batangas – The bodies of two victims of severe tropical storm “Kristine” were found in Barangay Don Juan here on Monday afternoon, Oct. 28.

The victims were identified as Gayzhel, 35, and Kyle, 13.

Their bodies were buried under debris from flashflood when they were found by authorities during retrieval operations.
