Marcos names lawyer Hilario Paredes as new BCDA chair

President Marcos has named lawyer Hilario Bringas Paredes as the new chairperson of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

In a letter dated Oct. 28, Marcos endorsed Paredes to be the new chief of the BCDA, replacing retired police general Thompson Lantion.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed to the media the endorsement on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Paredes, 52, is also a member of the BCDA's Board of Directors.

He is a businessman and a practicing lawyer for the last 26 years, specializing in the fields of banking and corporate finance; corporate law; infrastructure; telecommunications; mergers and acquisitions; taxation; immigration and labor and employment; real property law and litigation.

He is the founder and senior partner of the Paredes Law Group.

The new BCDA chief is also the chairman and president of the Asian Center for Legal Excellence, Inc. since 2009, and Paredes Holdings since 2019.

In 1996, he graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree at the age of 23. He finished his college education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science also from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1992.
