Manila South Cemetery soon to have crematorium worth P25M

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced that the Manila South Cemetery will soon have its own crematorium after the city approved the P24.8 million proposal of the winning bidder, Chainworks Corporation.
“The crematorium is one of our high-impact, pro-poor infrastructure projects implemented by the Manila Health Department. The cemetery and related services are under the purview of the Manila Health Department... The need for a public crematorium in Manila is one of the lessons learned from the COVID pandemic because we saw that the poor of Manila needed an affordable crematorium,” the mayor said.
She noted that the crematorium project was bid out last August 30.
The mayor also inspected the Manila South Cemetery on Monday afternoon, October 28, to check on its preparations for the annual festivities in conjunction with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2.
“In the 2024 city budget, P33.475 million is the allocation for cemetery services and P7.76 million of that is for maintenance and other operating services and P25.7 million is for personnel salaries, wages, and benefits,” the mayor of the capital city noted.
She also disclosed that the Manila South Cemetery has a 2,400 square meter cemetery for Muslims.
