K-pop group UNIS wraps up fancon in Manila, Cebu; to donate to ‘Kristine’ relief efforts

K-pop girl group UNIS completed their fancon (fan meeting and concert) in Manila and Cebu City.

They announced that part of the proceeds of the fancon will be donated to the relief efforts for Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine,” which wreaked havoc across the Philippines.

UNIS (유니스) held their “UNIS in CURIOUSland” fancon in Manila at the New Frontier Theater on Oct. 25, which drew about 2,500 fans. The following day on Oct. 26, they held the fancon at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Cebu City, which was attended by about 1,500 people.

This marked their return to the Philippines after holding their  U&iS Fansign Event in Manila in May.

UNIS made their debut in the music scene in March this year with members Hyeonju, Yoona, Gehlee, Nana, Seowon, Kotoko, Yunha, Elisia and Seowon.

During their Manila fancon, they performed their songs “Curious,” “Poppin,’” “Dream of Girls,” “Superwoman,” “Watchu Need,” and “Dopamine.”

UNIS also covered P-pop group BINI’s “Pantropiko” and K-pop girl group TWICE’s “Cheer Up.”

During a press conference at Sheraton Manila Hotel on Oct. 24, UNIS announced their donation for the victims of Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine.”

“We would like to send a message of comfort to all those who were affected by the typhoon. UNIS will be donating a part of our income from the fan concert to those who were affected by the typhoon. And we hope that there will not be much damage to those who were affected by the typhoon,” said leader Hyeonju.

Elisia added, “As the follow-up message for the people who got affected by the typhoon. (We) are praying and hoping that you guys and your loved ones are all safe and sound. I hope and we hope that you guys find strength and resilience and, of course, hope, and just know that help is on the way and we hope that you guys just stay safe.”

It’s only seven months since their debut and during this time, UNIS received numerous awards. Among them were Best Female Rookie at the 2024 Brand of the Year Awards; K-World Dream Music Icon Award and Upick Girl Group Popularity Award at the K-World Dream Awards; and Hottest Award and Today's Choice Award at The Fact Music Awards.

These recognitions have become very memorable for UNIS.

“I remember every award that we have received so far and as you all know, it hasn't been a year yet since our debut but we have been receiving a lot of awards. I think we should try harder and try better in the future as well,” said Yunha.

For Gehlee, she remembered their first fan signing event in Manila.

“For me, without a doubt, it would be the fan meeting here in the Philippines that we had back in May. It’s really…how passionate the screams and support that we received when we arrived at the venue. There were so many people just cheering for us all the way to our waiting room and when we all arrived there I think the members can agree with me when I say it was an unforgettable experience we felt so much warmth and comfort and we just had to take a moment to process all the love that we were receiving back then because we were just so overwhelmed and happy with the all of the love that we were receiving from the Filipino EverAfter [fans],” said Gehlee.

Hyeonju said fans’ love gives them the energy and the drive to keep on going.

“Of course we get the energy from the fans, the EverAfter, so no matter how busy our schedules are, whenever we hear the cheers of our fans, we get inspiration and energy from them. It’s like magic that all those hardships and difficulties like melt away whenever we hear the support of the fans,” she said.

According to Yoona, “In order to perform better in front of the fans, it's very important to have our own time of rest so I spend my personal time really just resting in order to save my energy for the next performance.”

Nana said they connect with their fans through social media (such as Instagram, X and TikTok), the most commonly used way by K-pop idols and celebrities to update the public.

“We try to communicate with our fans through social media and by just commenting on our posts and uploading short forms of video,” she said.

UNIS said they wanted to be known to more people.

“We are aiming to promote the name of our group UNIS to more audiences and we hope that once the audience hears the word UNIS, they would really think of our group as someone who represents this generation,” said Yunha.

UNIS members are very thankful to their fans for their love and support.

“No other words to say to our fans but really, really thank you for all the support that they have given to UNIS. I think that maybe like 80 percent or almost 100 percent of the reason why they're [here] is because our fans have been supporting us all throughout and I want to say that I really love our fans and thank you for all the support,” said Hyeonju.

“UNIS in CURIOUSland” was presented by F&F Entertainment, Universal Records Philippines, SHOW Co. Ltd., GLXY Entertainment, and Kakao Entertainment.
