Brace for Super Typhoon Leon—PBBM


President Marcos has ordered local government units (LGUs) in areas expected to be hit by Super Typhoon Leon to prepare for its potential impact.

“Unfortunately, mukhang may padating na naman. Kaya’t paghandaan natin nang mabuti (it seems there is another one coming. So, let's prepare for it),” Marcos said on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The President made the remarks during the opening of the Maersk Optimus distribution center in Calamba City, Laguna.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), "Leon" intensified into a super typhoon while moving over the Philippine Sea on Wednesday morning.

As of 10 a.m., the center of the super typhoon was located 350 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, and is advancing west northwestward at 10 kph.

PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 in Batanes, the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana).

Signal No. 2 was raised for the rest of Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, the northern and eastern portions of Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, the northern and eastern portions of Abra, the eastern portion of Mountain Province (Paracelis), and Ilocos Norte.

Areas under Signal No. 1 include the rest of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, the northeastern portion of Tarlac, the northern portion of Bulacan, the northern portion of Quezon, including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, the northern portion of Camarines Sur, and the northern and eastern portions of Catanduanes.

Super Typhoon Leon is hitting the Philippines a week after Severe Tropical Storm Kristine battered most of Luzon.
