NNIC readies NAIA for 'Undas' travel surge

Ramon Ang-led New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) braces itself for the expected influx of passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for the All Souls’ Day break.

In a statement on Monday, Oct. 28, NNIC said it joined forces with industry stakeholders such as the Manila International Airport Authority, the Department of Transportation, Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority), Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Immigration, and Bureau of Quarantine, to ensure sufficient manpower and available resources to handle the expected increased passenger traffic.

NNIC is also working with airlines to open check-in counters early to allow passengers more time for check-in and reduce queuing times during peak hours, as well as transport service providers to increase vehicle availability and make it easier for passengers to transport to and from the airport.

Additional parking spaces will also be opened at Terminal 3 to accommodate more vehicles. Previously, NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez said that NNIC was building a new car park at Terminal 3 that would accommodate as much as 2,500 vehicles.

A comprehensive review of ground handler and airline equipment deployment is also underway to make sure sufficient serviceable equipment is available to manage baggage and passenger flow efficiently.

NNIC advises passengers to arrive early for their scheduled flights to allow enough time for security, check-in, and immigration procedures. Staying updated on travel guidelines and cooperating with airport staff will also help ensure a hassle-free experience during the busy season.

Earlier this month, local carriers reported an increase in booking for the Undas break. Gokongwei-led Cebu Pacific alone said it expects nearly a million passengers to travel across all its flights, while AirAsia Philippines said it has so far booked 75,000 passengers across its destinations.
