Globe partners with Singapore-based firm to enhance 4G, 5G networks

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. joined forces with Singapore-based Transcelestial Technologies Pte Ltd. to deploy a laser communications system that would expand its 4G and 5G connectivity in the country.

Through its shared services and outsourcing arm Asticom Technology Inc., Globe said it conducted along with Transcelestial a trial of the laser communications system using the latter’s CENTAURI device during an event that gathered thousands of individuals at the 55,000-seat Philippine arena.

The CENTAURI device is a compact, shoebox-sized unit that was designed to deliver fiber-like connectivity without the need for physical cables, making it ideal for environments where rapid deployment is essential. It establishes an invisible, secure laser communications network between buildings and solutions like Globe’s Cell Site on Wheels (COW), ensuring high throughput and seamless data transmission.

The laser communications system offers a cost-efficient and rapidly deployable option to conventional fiber optics and is expected to benefit industries such as the business processing outsource firms, finance, and improve port operations in the country.

“Laser communications hold immense promise for the future of high-speed, reliable connectivity, particularly in areas where deploying physical infrastructure is difficult or impractical,” said Globe Head of Service Planning and Engineering Joel Agustin.

“With Transcelestial’s innovation, we are not only enabling faster deployment but also enhancing the overall network experience for our customers,” he added.

For his part, Transcelestial cofounder and chief technology officer Mohammad Danesh said that Transcelestial’s partnership with Globe and Asticom was “a prime example of how the telecom industry is evolving, moving towards more agile, efficient, and scalable solutions that can meet the ever-growing demand for high-speed connectivity.”

“It is a significant step towards our vision of a world where distance and location are no longer barriers to seamless, high-quality communication,” he added.

Mharicar Castillo-Reyes, president and chief executive officer of Asticom, said that the company, as a strategic partner for reselling, installation, and services for CENTAURI, will help implement Transcelestial’s cutting-edge technologies across the country, enabling businesses and communities to benefit from enhanced connectivity.
