Boracay remains safe – DOT, LGU

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the local government unit (LGU) of Malay town in Aklan province assured that world-famous Boracay Island remains safe following the impact of severe tropical storm “Kristine.”

“The local community, together with the authorities, has been working tirelessly to ensure that Boracay remains a safe, beautiful, and enjoyable destination for all,” said the DOT-Western Visayas in a statement over the weekend.

“Despite recent challenges, our beloved island of Boracay stands strong and continues to embody the resilience and warmth that it is known for,” DOT-6 said.

Boracay is still reeling from the impact of Kristine’s week-long onslaught.

Strong winds damaged roofs at the resort-island’s port and toppled electric tricycles.

Intermittent heavy rainfall flooded parts of Boracay, including a mini-mall.

On Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, a tourist from Laguna drowned.

The Municipal Tourism Office of the Malay LGU assured that concerns from the incident are being addressed.

“Comprehensive inspections and safety protocols have been completed, ensuring that every aspect of Boracay is ready to offer visitors a safe and enjoyable experience,” the Malay Tourism Office said.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Boracay White Beach Festival continues. The International Dragon Boat Competition as well as the beach basketball, beach volleyball, beach frisbee, and beach football events are ongoing.
