The king of adventure has arrived as SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, distributor of BMW cars and motorcycles, launches the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure.
The new R 1300 GS is an almost completely newly-designed model with enhanced adventure expertise across the board.
BMW Motorrad has almost completely redesigned the engine, chassis, bodywork, design and storage concept of the new R 1300 GS Adventure compared to the previous model.
The body has a sheet metal shell main frame made of steel, offering higher levels of stiffness. In place of the previous tubular steel construction, the new aluminum lattice tube rear frame uses aluminum tubes and forged parts.
The R 1300 GS boasts of full LED headlights in new matrix design and auxiliary headlights as standard. LED turn indicators are integrated into the hand protectors. This combination illuminates the road with clarity, thereby ensuring even better perception in traffic.
Helping it live up to its adventure name is a 30-liter aluminum fuel tank. The component also serves as a luggage carrier with three fastening elements on the upper tank paneling for easy and simple refueling and quick access to the smartphone charging compartment.
There’s also a large windshield, combined with two large transparent wind deflectors for effective protection from the wind and weather.
Keeping aloft is a new EVO Telelever front wheel guide with flex element and the revised EVO Paralever rear wheel guide for greater steering precision and riding stability.
At its heart is the legendary twin-cylinder boxer engine. The new design, first introduced on the R 1300 GS, is much more compact than its predecessor thanks to a transmission located under the engine and a new arrangement of the camshaft drive. It generates 145-hp from 1,300 cc at 7,750 rpm. Maximum torque is 149-Nm at 6,500 rpm.
Reigning in all this power is easy with four riding modes now standard. These are “Rain,” “Road,” “Eco,” and “Enduro” for an enhanced experience off the beaten track; a specific set-up for off-road use.
Besides the standard ABS and traction control, the R 1300 GS Adventure is also equipped equipped with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with braking function as standard.
Extensive options list
If these features aren’t enough, BMW Motorrad is also offering an extensive list of optional extras to further enhance the riding experience.
First of all, the engine can be paired with an Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) for fully automatic clutch actuation with manual or automated shifting as an optional extra. The ASA comes with two modes: D where all the gear shifting is handled by the system; and M for semi-automatic mode, where the shifting is done by the rider through the shift lever on the left footpeg. Units with ASA will no longer have a clutch lever.
Another tempting addition is Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), which goes a step further than the predecessor’s Dynamic ESA. It combines dynamic adjustment of the front and rear damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate (“spring stiffness”) - depending on the selected riding mode. DSA also includes adaptive vehicle height control (going lower by 30 mm when stationary).
The GS Adventure’s Advance Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) can be further enhanced with the Riding Assistant package with adds features like Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning and the new Rear End Collision Warning (RECW).
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is offered in four variants: Racing Red priced at P1,895,000; the Style GS Trophy priced at P1,965,000; Style Triple Black with Shift Assistant priced at P1,995,000 and Option 719 Karakorum priced at and P2,095,000. Prices may still vary depending on options selected. All variants are supported by a 5 year/500,000 km warranty.
