Revilla lauds DPWH's efforts to monitor infra, roadways amid 'Kristine's' onslaught

Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. lauded the efforts made by the Department of Public Works (DPWH) in deploying its personnel to immediately assess existing public infrastructure amidst the ongoing onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

Revilla, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Works said that DPWH sent out its personnel to monitor and clear roadways and bridges in affected areas after President Marcos gave the order in the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) meeting on Wednesday morning.

"Napakahalaga ng papel ng DPWH ngayon para makapasok ang mga rescuers at tulong sa mga apektadomg lugar (The role of DPWH is crucial today to enable rescuers and aid to reach affected areas)," the lawmaker said.

"Tama ang Presidente (The President's right) that the immediate concern is to make sure that those affected are not isolated and away from reach," Revilla explained.

The solon recognized the daunting task in front of the DPWH but asked them to press on.

"Maraming mga imprastruktura at mga daanan ang lubhang naapektuhan (Many infrastructure and roads were severely affected)," he shared, adding that the truckloads of relief assistance he sent to the Bicol Region is having a hard time reaching their destination due to persistent flooding.

"Kaya mahalaga ang tuloy-tuloy na kabayanihan ng ating mga first responders upang matiyak na makakarating ang ating tulong (The continuing bravery of our first responders has been crucial in ensuring that aid reaches those in need)," he stressed.

Meanwhile, in his Facebook Live, Revilla showed that he also sent a truckload of relief goods to residents hit by Kristine in Naga.

Revilla also distributed financial aid alongside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to over 1,400 residents of Bacoor who were initially affected by consecutive fires and are now benefiting from the help.

The beneficiaries received P25,000 as support, especially those who lost their homes.

According to the senator, the residents of Bacoor have been going through a tough time as they have not yet recovered from the fires; now, they are being affected again by the recent calamities.

Revilla stated that apart from the city of Bacoor, other towns that were hit by Kristine include Tanza, General Trias, Imus, and some parts of Tagaytay.

He personally went around with his wife, Congresswoman Lani Revilla, to get firsthand information about the situation of their countrymen before distributing aid such as relief packs provided at the Bacoor Coliseum.
