Several Cavite waterways reach critical, spilling levels amid heavy rains

CAVITE – Several waterways in Cavite have reached critical and spilling levels amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine on Thursday, October 24.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) communication officer on-duty Gina Ilano told the Manila Bulletin that evacuation operations are on-going for residents in affected areas.

During a Facebook live stream at 4:12 p.m., Cavite 1st District Board Member Davey Reyes-Chua said the Ylang-Ylang River in Noveleta has reached its spilling level of over 6.5 meters.

Several areas in the coastal municipality are inundated by up to knee-deep floods.

In Ternate, authorities are also monitoring the water level over Sapang Bridge, which has reached its critical level of three meters, according to the PDRRMO.

Prinza Dam in General Trias City, meanwhile, has also reached its critical level as of 4:00 p.m.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a Red Rainfall Warning in Cavite and Batangas 2:00 p.m., advising residents to stay alert due to possible floods and landslides.
