Parañaque LGU inspects waterways to prevent flooding amid STS 'Kristine'

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez ordered the inspection and monitoring of waterways across several barangays in the city to prevent flooding as heavy to intense rainfall continues to batter Metro Manila and nearby provinces due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
The monitoring was led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Bantay Kalikasan Team under the Environment and Management Division to evaluate the status and water levels.
Olivarez said the activity was conducted to prevent flooding by ensuring unobstructed water flow.
He added that the operations support the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office by providing critical information not only to help prevent floods but also to mitigate risks and protect communities from potential hazards.
The CENRO team also conducted a creek cleanup operation along the San Dionisio River using a trash skimmer, which is part of the city government’s regular clean-up drive and preparation measures, especially during typhoons.
He also said that clearing debris minimizes the risk of clogged waterways, overflow, and property damage, while reducing pollution and promoting a healthier environment for the community.
