OVP sends aid to Bicol amid 'Kristine' onslaught

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has sent help to frontliners, responders, families, and students affected by Typhoon Kristine in the Bicol region.

In a statement, the OVP said it has sent provisions to the affected individuals through the OVP - Bicol Satellite Office.

“Agad na umaksyon ang mga kawani ng Office of the Vice President sa Legazpi City ngayong gabi, October 23, 2024 para sa mga naapektohan ng Bagyong #KristinePH (The personnel of the Office of the Vice President in Legazpi City on October 23, 2024 immediately acted for those affected by Typhoon #KristinePH),” it stated.

According to the statement, hot meals and bottled water were given to more than 1,000 frontliners and responders from Legazpi City at Daraga DRRMO (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office), Daraga Public Safety Officers, Legazpi City 911 Command Center, Albay Provincial Safety and Emergency Management Office, Legazpi City Police Station, and Community Police Stations.

The satellite office also extended help to the affected families of several barangays—Ems Barrio, Lapu-Lapu, and Bitano—as well as to the affected students from Bicol University Legazpi and Daraga campuses.

These relief operations were planned ahead of time in coordination with the Office of the Vice President Disaster Operations Center (OVP-DOC) and different local government units in the affected areas.

“Habang nagsasagawa ng coordination ang OVP-DOC, ginagawa na din ang repacking ng mga relief items upang ihatid sa mga apektadong lugar sa Visayas at Southern Luzon (While the OVP-DOC is coordinating, relief items are being repacked to be sent to the affected areas in Visayas and Southern Luzon),” a separate statement earlier posted on the OVP’s Facebook page said.

According to the OVP, its satellite offices in Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor readied the hot meals for the stranded passengers in the port, while its satellite offices in Pangasinan and Cagayan Valley already had prepositioned relief boxes for those affected by the typhoon in their areas.

The OVP’s sending of relief operations to Bicol region came after former vice president Leni Robredo requested rubber boats and other rescue equipment to be sent to her hometown of Naga City that’s severely hit by the typhoon.
