Muntinlupa spared from heavy rains but strong winds spook residents

Muntinlupa was spared from heavy rains caused by Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine” but residents were alarmed by the strong winds that toppled trees. 

Metro Manila, including Muntinlupa, is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 based on the bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 8 a.m. on Oct. 24.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon went around Muntinlupa to inspect areas including the Muntinlupa Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which is monitoring the weather situation in the city. 

Response units in Muntinlupa are under blue alert in preparation for any untoward incidents. 

Strong winds overnight toppled trees and utility poles in several areas in Muntinlupa. The city government sent personnel to clear roads of the fallen trees and poles. Some areas in the city experienced brownouts. 

In a video, Biazon showed the “unique” situation on why Muntinlupa was spared from heavy rains. 

The satellite image showed rainbands of “Kristine” in the country. It showed Southern Metro Manila, including Muntinlupa, in between the rainbands or the area where there is no heavy rains.  

“Well, act of God talaga yan at tayo ay na-spare. At tayo dapat ay nagpapasalamat na nagkaroon ng ganoong situation (Well, it’s really an act of God that we were spared. We should be thankful that a situation like this happened),” the mayor said in the video. 

But Biazon cautioned that Muntinlupa may experience rains today (Oct. 24) based on the satellite image. 

Classes were suspended in Muntinlupa due to the severe tropical storm.
