Marbil alerts PNP units for disaster response amid 'Kristine' threat


Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), placed all police units in areas along the path of tropical storm “Kristine” on alert to ensure maximum assistance to those who would be affected.

Police forces are usually being tapped for disaster response across the country, the assistance covers manpower and mobility assets.

"All of our police officers were deployed in affected areas for disaster response efforts at humanitarian assistance. Likewise, we have deployed mobility assets to be used in aiding our kababayans," said Marbil.

The PNP also has a disaster response protocol that covers various assistance that includes preemptive evacuation and search and rescue operations. 

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has activated its Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) to help government disaster response units.

NCRPO acting director Maj. Gen. Sidney S. Hernia said all RSSF personnel are on heightened alert to respond effectively to emergencies.

And as of Tuesday, Oct. 22, Hernia said a total of 875 RSSF personnel were already deployed to critical areas, with 466 officers stationed at evacuation centers and key installations across Metro Manila. 

“These officers are prepared to assist in rescue, relief, and recovery operations, ensuring an immediate response to urgent situations," said Hernia.  

“The NCRPO is also working closely with local government units and other agencies to prepare for the storm,” he added.

So far, he said at least  598 evacuation centers were already identified in Metro Manila to accommodate individuals and families that would seek shelter from the weather disturbance.
