Marikina LGU suspends classes anew due to TS 'Kristine'
Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro has suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the city on Thursday, October 24.
Teodoro said both face-to-face and asynchronous classes will remain suspended as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised Metro Manila under Signal No. 2, and heavy rainfall is expected in the coming hours and days.
“Panatalihin nating ligtas ang bawat tahanan. Mag-ingat at maging handa tayong lahat (Let us keep every home safe. Let's stay vigilant and prepared),” Teodoro said.
The local government has already opened evacuation camps, set up modular tents, and coordinated with all city staff and public school principals to prepare for the possible arrival of evacuees in schools. It had also deployed rescue boats in strategic and low-lying areas.
The city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) is also continuously monitoring the water level in the Marikina River.
The agency has also deployed barangay personnel (parking wardens) near the river park to warn vehicle owners to move their cars to higher ground before the river water rises due to the storm.
