'Kristine' lashes Eastern Visayas; widespread disruptions reported

TACLOBAN CITY – Tropical storm “Kristine” continues to lash Eastern Visayas with heavy rains and strong winds, resulting in widespread flooding and disruptions to transportation and power supply.

A total of 1,807 families or 6,771 individuals have evacuated from different parts of the region.

There no cancelled flights but 27 sea trips were cancelled with 1,716 stranded passengers at seaports.

The Police Regional Office-8 reported 91 flooded barangays across the region, leaving five roads impassable to vehicles.

Landslides were reported in San Jorge, Samar on the provincial road in Barangay Himay and the boundary between Barangays Barruz and Maduruto in Matuguinao, Samar, rendering them impassable to vehicles.

In Taft, Eastern Samar, a landslide was also reported in Barangay Binaloan.

Classes and work in government offices remain suspended in Northern Samar and Samar.

In Leyte, classes are suspended in Dagami and La Paz, while the municipalities of Carigara and Tolosa suspended work in government offices and classes on all levels in public and private schools.

The Tacloban City Division cancelled classes from Kinder to Grade 12.

In Biliran, the municipalities of Naval, Almeria, Culaba, and Kawayan extended the suspension of work and classes.

In Eastern Samar, work and classes on all levels are suspended in the municipality of Taft while Gov. Ben Evardone announced that they are delivering 100 sacks of rice and 10,000 bottled water to Jipapad which remains flooded.

"We have also requested DSWD to release 1,500 prepositioned food packs in Jipapad. Other support and intervention will follow. Let us stay safe."
