Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes at all levels in the entire Luzon on Thursday, Oct. 24, as Typhoon Kristine developed into a severe tropical storm on Wednesday evening.
The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) made the announcement on Wednesday evening, a few hours after it declared the suspension of government work and classes in the Bicol Region for the following day. Bicol is one of the areas that suffered the most due to the onslaught of Typhoon Kristine.
In a statement, the OES said the decision to suspend government work and classes in the entire Luzon was upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) relative to the “forecasted continuous heavy rainfall” due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, and to aid in the rescue and relief operations of the government.
Agencies providing basic and health services and those involved in disaster preparedness and response and other vital services must continue their operations.
Meanwhile, the localized cancellation or suspension of classes or work in government offices in other areas may be implemented by their respective local chief executives, under relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
