BACOLOD CITY – The official Facebook page of the provincial government of Negros Occidental was hacked on Tuesday morning, Oct. 22.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson informed the public about the hacking incident and assured that their Information Technology (IT) department is doing its best to remedy the unfortunate situation and recover control of the account.
Provincial administrator Rayfrando Diaz, in a media interview, said that the matter has been raised to the attention of their IT personnel to enable them to regain control of the social media page.
“They already have experience on how to do it, and I am confident that they would be able to recover the Facebook page,” he added.
Diaz said that they were surprised to learn that there were women’s posts on their FB page.
“We would never do that, of course. It was somebody who got control of the page of the province illegally,” he added.
“This is the first time,” Diaz said, adding that it also happened to other local government units. But he stressed that the province is equipped to resolve the matter.
He hopes that their page will be retrieved immediately to enable them to resume posting official activities. Diaz said that they will minimize situations in the future so that the incident won’t happen again.
