CAVITE—Gov. Athena Tolentino announced the suspension of classes in all levels on Monday, Oct. 21, due to the expected impact of Tropical Depression Kristine.

In a Facebook post, Tolentino reminded her constituents to take care of themselves and to look after their pets.

“Stay safe and dry, everyone! Wag rin po natin kalimutan ang ating mga alagang hayop sa labas ng bahay (Let us also not forget our pets outside the house),” the governor said.

This is Tolentino's first provincial class cancellation announcement since she assumed the gubernatorial post on Oct. 8, following the appointment of former Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla as the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s 5:00 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Kristine has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, bringing maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near its center, gusts of up to 70 km per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect in Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Northern Samar.

PAGASA’s Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 3, issued at 8:00 a.m., stated that light to moderate rains are expected in Cavite, as well as in Bulacan, Metro Manila, and Batangas.
