'Kristine' likely to make landfall in northern part of Luzon on October 25 — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Tropical Depression “Kristine” is expected to make landfall in the northern part of Luzon, particularly over northeastern Cagayan, by Friday, Oct. 25.

As of its latest bulletin issued at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, PAGASA said that Kristine is located 870 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.

The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph. It is projected to move west-southwestward at 30 kph.

In anticipation of the impending strong winds, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over Catanduanes, Masbate, including Ticao and Burias Islands, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, eastern portion of Quezon, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Biliran, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte, including Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands.

PAGASA warned that Signal No. 4 may be raised as Kristine approaches typhoon status before landfall.

Heavy to intense rainfall, ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, is expected in Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Northern Samar.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters, may affect Quezon, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon, and Eastern Visayas.
