Globe partners with ACEN to shift 20 facilities to renewable energy

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. is looking to transition 20 of its facilities to using renewable energy (RE) over the next five years as part of its commitment to attain a zero carbon footprint by 2050.

In a statement on Monday, Oct. 21, Globe said it tapped the retail electricity supply (RES) unit of its sister company ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions to power its 20 facilities with RE, with three expected to complete the transition by the end of the year.

Once finished, Globe will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by 42,000 metric tons.

“This strategic move underscores Globe’s commitment to sustainability and its active role in promoting [RE] adoption in the country,” the company said.

Eric Francia, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of ACEN said: “Digitalization and sustainability are at the very core of the Ayala group. We are excited to harness these synergies with Globe and help empower the Filipino people in a sustainable manner.”

Meanwhile, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said the new milestone marks a step towards Globe’s goal of transitioning to RE.

“By working together with [ACEN] RES, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also demonstrating our commitment to providing innovative digital solutions for Filipinos towards a sustainable future,” he said.

To commemorate the achievement, Francia and Cu unveiled Globe’s Powered by Renewable Energy badge at the Globe Tower. The badge is awarded by ACEN to its customers who have shifted to 100 percent RE supply.

According to Globe, the badge serves as a testament to the company's dedication to sustainability and its active role in promoting RE adoption in the Philippines.

“This partnership with ACEN RES further strengthens Globe’s position as a leader in the telecommunications industry, demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices,” it said.

One of Globe’s sites that successfully transitioned was its headquarters at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, which began using RE in 2019.
