Marikina DRRMO conducts training for youth to enhance disaster rescue skills

The Marikina City Rescue 161, the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), conducted a training session for youth volunteers on basic water rescue skills to prepare them for disaster response.

Youth members of the Marikina Rescue Team (rescue medic volunteers) attended the training at the Marikina Sports Center on Monday, September 30.

The training included proper techniques for various water strokes and methods for floating in water.

The city's DRRMO added that there will be follow-up training sessions, with schedules to be announced. The next session is expected to focus on rescue techniques in running water.

It said that the training aims to share proper knowledge and skills with volunteer groups that work alongside the city government in responding to floods and similar calamities.

It also seeks to strengthen the city's disaster response capacity.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro reminded Marikeños to continue working together to overcome any challenges that they may face.

“Turuan at gabayan ang mga kabataang boluntaryo. Bigyan ng mga pagsasanay dahil sila ang susunod na henerasyon na sasagip ng buhay (Teach and guide the young volunteers. Provide them with training because they are the next generation of lifesavers),” Teodoro said.
