Japanese wanted for offshore gaming in Cambodia arrested in Quezon City

Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) arrested a 36-year old Japanese, who is allegedly wanted for running an offshore gaming operation in Cambodia, during an operation in Quezon City on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. said Sasaki Yohei is also wanted for his alleged involvement in telecom fraud.

“He escaped after an operation against offshore gaming in Cambodia in 2023. He is also wanted for telecom fraud and was monitored to be hiding in the country,” said Nartatez.

He said the operation stemmed from the police assistance of the Omiya Judicial Police which described Sasaki as a man of bad conduct with criminal records such as theft and breaking into a residence.

Armed with the arrest warrant and backed by agents of the Bureau of Customs, police swooped down on the hiding place of Sasaki in Tandang Sora at around 4 p.m. and resulted in his arrest.

Nartatez said the arrested Japanese is now under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration for proper documentation prior to his possible deportation.
