The chairman of the House Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation and Victims Compensation has thanked President Marcos for giving his firm commitment to expedite the restoration of water and electricity in Marawi City.
"This crucial decision strikes right at the heart of the challenges we continue to face in the full rehabilitation of our beloved city—housing, electricity, and water," Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said in a statement Wednesday, Oct. 2.
"I extend my heartfelt gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr...Thank you, Mr. President, for your unwavering support," said Adiong, also a co-chairman of the Congressional Oversight Committee on the Marawi Siege Victims’ Compensation Act.
It was May 23, 2017 when an estimated 1,000 ISIS-inspired Maute Group terrorists occupied Marawi City in Lanao del Sur. The Philippine military drove the terrorists out after a grueling five-month battle that left the Islamic city in shambles.
"I have witnessed firsthand how vital these services are to the recovery and rebuilding of our communities," Adiong said.
According to him, the President’s decisive action "not only addresses a long-standing concern but also reassures the people of Marawi that they are seen, heard, and supported".

"This marks another great stride toward a Bagong Pilipinas of genuine and lasting peace," he said, referring to the Marcos administration's branding of a "New Philippines".
"It brings us closer to the day when Marawi will stand stronger than ever, fully restored, and its people empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope," the "Young Guns" bloc member said.
"We remain committed to ensuring that these directives translate into swift and concrete outcomes on the ground, bringing us closer to realizing the full promise of rehabilitation and healing for Marawi," he further said.
