TV director and former Taguig mayor Lino Cayetano announced on Oct. 2 that he will be running for congressman for the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros in the May 12, 2025 national and local elections.
The position is currently held by Rep. Ricardo "Ading" Cruz Jr., a partymate of Mayor Lani Cayetano, Lino’s sister-in-law, who is in his first term.
Lino Cayetano made the announcement in a video he released.
“Gusto kong ianunsyo ang aking desisyon na tumakbo bilang kinatawan ng unang distrito ng Taguig at Pateros (I would like to announce my desisyon to run for representative of the First District of Taguig and Pateros),” he said.

I believe that I will contribute more when it comes to providing a bigger voice for our countrymen).”
Lino Cayetano also shut down rumors that he will be running for mayor of Taguig against his sister-in-law. He was elected mayor of Taguig in 2019 and served for one term until 2022. He gave way to Lani Cayetano who decided to run for mayor in 2022.
“Nung isang araw ay nagdesisyon tayo na hindi muna tumakbo bilang mayor ng lungsod ng Taguig at magbigay daan sa kandidatura ni Mayor Lani cayatano (The other day I decided not to run for mayor of the City of Taguig and give way to the candidacy of Mayor Lani Cayetano),” he said.
In a video he released on Sept. 29, Lino Cayetano said he will not run for mayor.
I hope that with my short announcement, the speculations that Lani or Lino will compete will stop. Ever since I never thought about that. There are those who speculate but I haven’t ever since),” he said.
Hindi mangyayari yun (If I gave way to her [Lani], I thought maybe she would give way to me. But it didn’t happen. It will never happen).”
In August, Lino Cayetano criticized the Taguig City government’s Facebook account for posting a resolution passed by the Taguig City Council supporting the statement of Rep. Cruz against 2nd District of Taguig Rep. Pammy Zamora who complained that she was not allowed to enter an evacuation center in the city to give relief goods to families.
The Taguig City Council resolution that was posted by the Taguig City government on Facebook stated, "Isang resolusyon na nagpapahayag ng suporta sa mga sentimiyento ni Kgg.
Lino Cayetano served as barangay captain of Fort Bonifacio from 2010 to 2013 and became a one-time congressman of the 1st District of Taguig from 2013 to 2016. He served as mayor of Taguig from 2019 to 2022.
