Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte remains mum on reported Senate bid


DAVAO CITY – Rep. Paolo Duterte of the first district here remains mum on his reported candidacy for senator with his brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in May.

“No comment,” Rep. Duterte told the media on Wednesday, October 2, referring them instead to his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, who announced that he would run for senator, along with  younger brother, Mayor Duterte, and their father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Rep. Duterte said he has yet to decide whether to run for reelection  or pursue a higher position. He added that their family is still discussing and finalizing the matter.

He said that he will submit his Certificate of Candidacy after meeting with his father, Vice President Duterte, and Mayor Duterte on Wednesday. He also said that he must consult with his wife, January, and his children.

"We still need to discuss the matter within the family to decide. You will find out in due time. The filing period runs until October 8," Rep. Duterte said while supporting his son Rodrigo II’s filing of his COC for first district councilor.

The lawmaker thanked the people of Davao for their endless support of the Duterte family. He urged the people here to endure longer as politics and governance are not permanent. He said those who are struggling will eventually receive blessings.
