The congressman who is behind the ongoing House inquiry on alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds (CIFs) linked to Vice President Sara Duterte says that the lady official's world "is getting smaller".
"Do not be deceived by her mad ranting," Manila 2nd district Rep. Rolando Valeriano said in a statement Friday, Oct. 18, in reference to Vice President Duterte's press conference that same morning.
"Her world is getting smaller now because the truth about her graft and corruption is being laid out in the open for all the people to witness and is being meticulously documented," said the member of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.
The committee held a hearing on Thursday, Oct. 17, wherein it was learned by solons that the Department of Education (DepEd) during Duterte’s time as secretarry falsely claimed to have spent P15 million in CIFs in connection with youth leadership summits (YLS) in 2023.
Attending resource persons from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) told the panel that the organization, along with the involved local government units (LGUs), shouldered the cost of the YSL.

Last September, Valeriano delivered a privilege speech questioning the public funds spending of the Vice President. The speech was referred by the Committee on Rules to the good government panel, which then launched the ongoing probe in aid of legislation.
Valeriano says the panel is carrying out the investigation on the allegations against the Vice President so that "the prosecutors and courts will have the evidence they need to decide her fate".
The good government panel--chaired by Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua--is the House equivalent of the vaunted Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
