CEBU CITY – The 31-year-old man who fatally stabbed a nurse inside a private hospital in Tagbilaran City, Bohol has sought forgiveness from the victim’s family.

Marlito Linguis showed remorse a day after the tragic crime as police are readying murder and physical injury charges against him, said Police Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Station.

Linguis used a pair of scissors in stabbing the 51-year-old nurse, who teased him that he would not be allowed to leave the hospital even after he had settled his bill.

The suspect was one of the residents of Barangay Sevilla, Magsaysay, Bohol admitted at the Bohol Doctors’ Hospital when they fell ill after consuming dinuguan (pork blood stew).

The suspect was about to be discharged on Thursday morning when the attack happened. The victim succumbed to stab wounds in the arms, body, and neck.

Also injured in the attack was the hospital’s utility worker, Francis Justiniare, 21.

The management of the hospital said it was “deeply saddened” over the “unforeseen tragedy” and vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic passing of a dedicated member of our healthcare team due to an incident involving a patient who allegedly had a history of drug use," the hospital said in a statement.

The hospital said it is working closely with law enforcement in the conduct of the investigation while also providing counseling services for affected staff and patients.

Despite the incident, it is business as usual in the hospital but necessary measures have been taken.

"The safety and well-being of our staff and patients remain our top priority," the hospital said.

"Your understanding and support from the community are truly appreciated as we navigate this tragedy.”
