Warm winds from Pacific waft across Luzon, E. Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Oct. 16 said the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, continue to prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas, resulting in slightly warmer weather across the country.

Over the next 24 hours, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will persist in Luzon and Eastern Visayas.

PAGASA said similar conditions may prevail over the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

It advised the public to stay vigilant as severe thunderstorms, which often bring heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and strong winds that usually last up to two hours, may trigger flash floods or landslides.

PAGASA, in its two-week tropical cyclone threat potential forecast issued on Oct. 14, shows that two tropical cyclone-like vortices may develop over the West Philippine Sea and the eastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Oct. 21 and 27.

The first vortex has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, while the second has a “low to moderate” likelihood of forming into a cyclone.
