Meralco completes new switching station to boost renewable energy capacity in Laguna

Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has completed a new switching station in Laguna to support the growing renewable energy capacity in the region.

In a statement, Meralco said the Milagrosa 115-kilovolt Switching Station, located in Carmelray Industrial Park II in Calamba, Laguna, was built to accommodate the power output of Solar Tanauan Corporation, a subsidiary of Prime Infrastructure.

The project, valued at P35 million, was initiated in November 2023 and was recently compleyted.

The new station will enhance the delivery of power from Solar Tanauan's 50-megawatt alternative current (MWac) power plant to Meralco's 115 kV system, benefiting areas in Calamba, Canlubang, and Cabuyao.

The switching station has three sets of power circuit breakers, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) equipment, protection and control systems, and telecommunications facilities.
Moreover, Meralco assured continued investments in improving distribution systems to secure stable and reliable electricity for its consumers.

Aside from providing electricity security to its coverage area, Meralco recently signed deals with two South Korean firms to help advance nuclear energy development in the Philippines.

This week, the utility firm signed a deal with Samsung C&T Corp. Engineering & Construction (Samsung C&T), and last week, it reached an agreement with Doosan Enerbility Co., Ltd. to explore potential nuclear studies and projects.
