
The Southern Police District (SPD) has beefed up its deployment to ensure a safe and orderly Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), which will run until October 18, 2024, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), according to SPD Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang.
Yang said a total of 2,091 SPD personnel had been deployed to monitor the PICC, the hotel accommodations for delegates, and oversee their field visits in the Philippines.
He said the deployment includes the Site Sub-Task Group (SSTG) commander and staff comprising of 22 personnel,1,128 for Task Unit (TU) Security, 100 for TU Reserve, 18 for TU Emergency Preparedness Response.
The SPD chief said an additional 1,951 police personnel have been assigned for peace and order, activated for boarder control and checkpoints, bringing the overall total to 3,219 personnel dedicated to ensuring security and addressing anti-criminality measures during the event.
The APMCDRR aims to unite governments, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, and academia to accelerate efforts in reducing disaster risk in the region.
