By Trixee Rosel
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will lead the 24th National Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Congress in Zamboanga City from Oct. 16 to 18.
DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma said the activity is aimed at enhancing employment services nationwide.
He said the congress will align PESO programs with the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act of 2023 and the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan 2023-2028, gathering PESO representatives from across the country.
Laguesma will deliver the keynote address, underscoring the vital role of PESOs and Job Placement Offices in tackling labor market challenges.
Discussions will cover ASEAN labor market trends, best practices in public employment, and the contributions of PESOs to advancing the government’s labor agenda.
International experts from organizations such as the International Labour Organization and Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare will offer insights on enhancing employment facilitation during plenary sessions.
One highlight of the congress will be the signing of the PESO Covenant, which formalizes the commitment of PESOs under the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Plan, alongside recognizing outstanding PESOs in the National Search for Best PESO Awards.
Organized by DOLE, the Bureau of Local Employment, and the PESO Managers Association of the Philippines, Inc., the event is hosted by DOLE Regional Office IX.
Currently, over 1,500 PESOs and 343 Job Placement Offices are collaborating with DOLE to provide efficient employment services at the local level.
