Man injured in LPG blast in Bacolod


BACOLOD CITY – A 25-year-old man was injured in a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) explosion in an eatery in Barangay Villamonte here on Monday morning, October 14.

Fire Officer (FO) 2 Rolin Paulan, arson investigator, said the eatery owner sought the assistance of the victim to open an LPG tank at the back of the eatery on the first floor of a two-story building.

The victim, a tenant of the building, opened the tank and discovered a leaked. He tried closing the tank but the leak worsened.

Paulan said that the victim was warned not to return to the back of the eatery. But he insisted on getting his cellphone. 

The LPG tank exploded and the victim sustained second degree burns on the left arm and was taken to a hospital here.

Three other tenants were affected by the explosion that triggered a fire at 6:52 a.m. due to combustible materials around the tank.

The fire partially damaged the eatery, glasses, roll-up doors, and ceilings of others stalls on the first floor.

Fire out was declared at 7:06 a.m. Damage to property was estimated at P180,000.

Paulan advised people to put a leaking LPG tank in an open space or report it to the distributor for replacement.
