Sustainable Brews: Engkanto partners with AboitizPower for solar energy

Local craft brewery Engkanto Brewery has partnered with AboitizPower Distributed Renewables Inc. (APx) to install solar panels at its facility and reduce its carbon footprint.

Taking a step towards renewable energy, APx will provide Engkanto with 97.09 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar panels that could generate around 130,293 kilowatt-hours (kWh) for its first operating year.

APx said a total of 2.6 million kWh from the renewables is expected to be produced throughout their 20-year contract, significantly reducing the brewery’s carbon footprint.

APx’s renewable distributions offer commercial and industrial businesses the opportunity to integrate clean energy into their operations, aligning with AboitizPower’s mission to advance sustainable energy solutions.

James Byron Yu, AdventEnergy first vice president and head of retail, stated that “we are enhancing operational efficiency and championing sustainability in the craft beer industry.”

Ian Paradies, Engkanto Brewery founder, believes this partnership is important in brewing local craft beers while promoting environmental sustainability.

“We believe that embracing renewable energy is not only beneficial for the environment but also sets an example for other businesses in the craft beer and manufacturing industries,” he added.

The solar project construction began earlier this year, as it was tested and commissioned by the second quarter through operating on clean energy for the facility.

Both parties stated the timely collaboration as this October is recognized as “Beer month” in most countries like the Philippines.

Since being established in 2017, Engkanto Brewery has earned recognition as the most internationally awarded local brewery in the country. From initially operating in Makati, the company moved to a larger facility in Cavite, opting to boost employment opportunities for locals.
