PH Marines hold marathon for kin of fallen personnel, WPS frontliners

The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) successfully hosted a fun run in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Sunday, Oct. 13, which aimed to support the families of its fallen personnel as well as those in the frontlines of the country’s fight for the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Around 4,000 Marines, uniformed personnel, running enthusiasts, and other joiners participated in the “Sovereignty Run 2024” which forms part of a series of activities for the upcoming celebration of the PMC’s 74th anniversary this Nov. 7.

The race began at 12 midnight as the runners sped off to complete their designated runs ranging from five kilometers to 50 kilometers.

The finishers received loot bags, singlets, medals, and shirts after the crossing the finish line.

The PMC said that this year’s marathon was the seventh iteration of the event which “not only [honors] the valor and sacrifices of the Philippine Marines but also [reaffirms] our nation’s commitment to sovereignty and unity in light of the challenges in the West Philippine Sea.”

“This 2024, the PMC marathon aims to raise funds for the families of our fallen marines and support the troops deployed in the western frontier while also promoting awareness and solidarity regarding the Philippines' stance on the WPS,” the PMC said.
