A SPECTACLE FOR ALL Audience members, young and old, will enjoy the colorful set design and vibrant costumes from the play

It was only a year ago that the Repertory Philippines staged its final run in its previous home after its former venue was set for renovations. Much to the delight of its followers and the fans of theater, it has since found a new home at Eastwood City Walk in Quezon City.

Frequent visitors of Eastwood might recognize the venue as it once served as a cinema. Now, the old space has been given new life as the new venue for Repertory Philippines’ space for future shows. In its opening ceremony, several veterans of Repertory Philippines came together as a show of support for the troupe’s new venture. To mark the occasion, those present were also treated to a performance of the venue’s inaugural act, Jepoy and the Magic Circle

Sure enough, the opening performance did not disappoint. Jepoy and the Magic Circle as an opening act shows off the venue’s capabilities. Quite a spectacle unfolded before the eyes of the audience on this night filled with awe and applause.

From the meticulous set design to the colorful props and costumes, bright lighting, and a brilliant performance from the cast… It’s as if the very words of Gilda Cordero-Fernando, on whose story, The Magic Circle, the play is based, came to life. One of the best parts of the show was the attention to detail on the puppetry and visual effects utilized throughout the show. It’ll leave any viewer mesmerized, unable to look away as the story plays out.

“We are thrilled to welcome Repertory Philippines to its new home in Eastwood City, the REP Eastwood Theater,” says Megaworld CEO Kevin Tan on a Facebook post. “As an advocate of Filipino performing arts, we are honored to play a major role in this new chapter of the country’s foremost theater company and purveyor of world-class productions and theater talents.”

What’s even more exciting, as Tan also announced, is the opening night of the theater. Because its aim is to make the Philippines the next “Broadway of Asia,” we can expect the construction of a future theater district within Megaworld Corporation’s Westside City township in Parañaque City as it will have theater venues large enough to enable the arts to flourish.
