Pasig mayoral candidate urges Mayor Vico to ink peace covenant for 2025 polls


Pasig City mayoral aspirant Sara Discaya urged incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto on Friday, October 11, to agree to a covenant for a peaceful and respectful 2025 midterm polls.

"Kami, na mga kandidato sa pagka-alkalde sa lungsod ng Pasig, incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto at mayoralty aspirant Sarah Discaya, sampu ng aming supporters, ay taos-pusong sumusuporta at
nakipagkasundo para sa peace covenant sa diwa ng pagkakaisa, respeto sa mga kapwa kandidato at pangakong pagtibayin ang kagustuhan ng Pasigueños sa May 2025 elections. (We, who are running for mayoralty in Pasig, incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto and mayoral aspirant Sarah Discaya, together with our supporters, agree and give our full support for peace covenant in the spirit of unity, respect for other candidates, and promise to strengthen the will of Pasigueños in the May 2025 elections)," the draft copy of the document read.

"Dahil sa kinikilala namin ang kahalagahan ng kapayapaan at integridad ng electoral process ay sumasang-ayon kami at tutuparin ang mga pangakong nakasaad sa ibaba na sasaksihan ng mga kinatawan ng simbahan, lokal na pulisya at hudikaturang pang-lungsod (Since we recognize the importance of peace and integrity on the electoral process, we agree to uphold and fulfill the promises that will be witnessed by members of the church, local police, and judiciary sector or the city)," it added.

The promises listed on the peace covenant include:

1. Ensure public peace and order and maintain respect to each other
2. Respect the election process
3. Suppress any form of cheating and vote buying
4. Promote the responsible use of traditional and social media
5. Peacefully accept the result of the election

Discaya said she and her ticket wishes to meet Sotto at the city hall for the signing of the document once he agrees to it.

As of this writing, Sotto has yet to respond to the draft of the peace covenant.

The mayor and his running mate, incumbent Pasig City Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski, filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) on October 5 while Discaya filed hers on October 7.
